I know this might have been asked many times, but I read through the threads and am looking for help on something based on my favorites. I've been going through a very rough time mentally for the past few years. One of the only things that has made me able to escape and feel excited again is reading my favorite series.
A few of my favorite series are as follows:
-
Culture Series – I don't generally re-read books but I've read this entire series 3 times now in the past 20 years, I save it for when I'm really down and read it again every 5 years or so, I think about the books/characters/ideas often, this is my favorite set of books of all time out of thousands of fiction/non fiction and I can't really explain why but it is.
-
Three body problem – the ideas in this book and the page turning, what's going to happen next are amazing here. It fires up my imagination more than most.
-
The Expanse – There's a few parts of this series I am not fond of and skip over on re-reads but overall it's a great escape and adventure
-
Ancillary Justice – I just liked it, even though the author doesn't explore too many crazy concepts
-
Takeshi Kovacs (altered carbon) – just love the violence and ideas and adventure/ideas
I could list more but with this list hopefully someone can suggest a few books, ideally a long series I've somehow missed out on. My problem is that I only like what I like, and I'll try hard to get into something but if it's not "my thing" I give up. For example I tried to read children of time 4-5 times and never finished the first book 🙁
I would be eternally grateful for any suggestions, I will look into them and give them all a chance, thanks!

Have you looked into reading at least the six original __*Dune*__ novels written by Frank Herbert?
Do you like fantasy? Cradle serie by Will Wight (completed) and the Hierarchy Series (2/4 complete) by James Islington.
Sci-Fi: Project Hail Mary
Pale Grey Dot, by Don Miasek. Expanse-esque, but with some cyberpunk and Jason Bourne tossed in.

There are three large books in this series and I can’t recommend it enough. The science fiction is done so well, the story is compelling and fresh, and I can’t recommend this series enough. I’m only nearly finished with book two but I’ve been trying to get everyone I know to read it.
