I’m someone who is wanting to get into reading so I’m on my phone less. I’ve enjoyed books in the sci fi realm as well as horror, but I’ve always found myself craving a good romance book.

I hope this doesn’t sound offensive but nowadays it feels like all the romance books I can find either are plain smut, have terrible grammar and spelling errors, have a cringy or shallow plot, have terrible tropes (in my opinion), or (if this makes sense) are simply books that feel very quickly thrown together to appeal to certain audiences.

For tropes I think my least favorites are workplace ones, ones involving pregnancy, forced proximity, any tropes involving cheating or arrangements, or anything with dark romance.

I would love to know some great book recommendations that are just sweet romances filled with fluff with actual plot and likable characters.

Please please please tell me someone feels the same and maybe has some recommendations 🫠

*Winter’s Orbit* by Everina Maxwell, sci-fi romance, MM, fade to black. It’s an arranged political marriage and one of the couple is healing from trauma (which occasionally features in flashbacks).

Eta: Wait you said no cheating or arrangements, which I misread as affairs. It is arranged, so maybe not the best rec.

Shoot I was going to recommend Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy. I just finished it like 30 minutes ago and it’s a top 5 all time in romance. Fantastically written with some of the most romantic lines I’ve ever read in a novel.

I might read War and Peace but I’m going to explore different authors before coming back to Tolstoy.

If you want something with fluff and good writing with likeable characters I would suggest Middlemarch by George Eliot. It’s not a pure romance but romance is a big part of it and a lot of my favorite couples in literature are from that novel. Plus it’s just really good.
