I have been craving a deeply emotional and insightful Beauty and the Beast retelling lately, but I can’t seem to find one that scratches the itch. Most of the ones I find are either more smut heavy or are YA retellings that can’t go into more mature themes due to age restrictions.
Basically I am asking for recommendations that are more mature than YA and not solely written for smut scenes. Particularly ones that are not set in modern times. A retelling I read and loved was “The Musician and the Monster” by Megan Van Dyke.
(Side note: I am aware A Court of Thorns of Roses is advertised as a Beauty and the Beast retelling)

if you liked musician and the monster you might want to check out “for the wolf” by hannah whitten – its got those darker fairy tale vibes without being smut focused and definitely deals with heavier themes than most YA stuff
also “heart of iron” by ashley poston has some batb elements but its more sci fi which might not be what youre after. the ten thousand doors of january isnt exactly batb but has similar themes of transformation and sacrifice if you want something adjacent
