I'm looking for a book that has love but not that sappy. Definitely no Colleen hoover. I prefer if its heartbreaking and destroys me. Mental illness, heartbreak, those are perfect
Eleanor Oliphant is completely fine has themes of mental illness and loneliness. It’s marketed as a funny light hearted read but I found it quite dark in some parts.
Normal people by Sally Rooney deals with Marianne and Connell’s complicated relationship with one another. You either like or dislike Rooneys writing.

Sounds like a job for Love Medicine by Louise Erdrich. No one does emotional devastation plus love like Native American women.
