Hello all, I'm looking for some horror books that aren't mainstream. I am really into SCP, psycological horror, dark romance (woman led) etc. Just trying to expand my horizons. Fantasy horror is also on the table. I just finished reading "Brother" by Aniah Ahlborn. That was fantastic. I also was reading "The Butcher and the Blackbird" by Brynne Weaver, but the sex scene wasn't it. Any and all suggestions welcome. TIA!!!!

For somewhat SCP-adjacent stuff I could recommend Caitlyn R. Kiernan’s *Tinfoil Dossier* trilogy, and Charles Stross’ *The Laundry Files* series.

EDIT: Oh yeah and Jeff VanderMeer’s *Southern Reach* trilogy

I didn’t think I was going to like “Negative Space” by BR Yeager as much as I did! Left me with a very anxious feeling as I was going through it

    3. If you liked Brother and want niche/psych-adjacent, try Negative Space (B.R. Yeager) and We Had to Remove This Post (Hanna Bervoets). For dark weird with a woman lead, Chlorine by Jade Song is more unsettling than straight horror but it gets under your skin.

    4. I will second (third?) the people recommending Jeff VanderMeer, Borne is the book I usually suggest if people aren’t familiar with him. He also has a short story collection called The Third Bear that has some horror stories that really haunted me.

Thomas Lingotti has a collection called Songs of a Dead Dreamer that’s really good.

John Dies at the End by Jason Pargin is one of my favorites, JDATE is the first book of a series, and all of them are fantastic.

Clive Barker Books of Blood is a classic if you haven’t read it…
