hi ya'll, I’m in a major slump. I’ve read pretty much all of Agatha Christie, Freida McFadden, Holly Jackson, and Lisa Jewell. I tried The Fury because I liked The Silent Patient, but it didn’t work for me. I’m also really tired of the “remote island / destination trip and someone dies” trope. it’s starting to feel repetitive.
I’m looking for an actually GOOD murder mystery: smart plot, satisfying reveal, eerie atmosphere, psychological depth, and totally unputdownable. I loved the vibes in The God of the Woods, and sharp objects. Any recs?

For sheer atmosphere, creepy murders, and good reveals, I’d suggest the Thora Gudmundsdottir series. I found them very gripping. They have a touch of horror but are actual murder mysteries. The author has a few other mystery series that I also enjoyed.
