Hello ,
Im a 19 year old college student who has recently become very interested in philosophy…..The problem is, I have never reallyy studied it before…my major is in a completely different subject… so Im starting completely from zero…
Also, I don’t really have a reading habit….. I have honestly never read a proper book apart from some children’s fiction back in middle school, and that was years ago….. So I would prefer something beginner friendly and not too critical and intimidating….
I really wanna understand philosophy… not just random quotes or surface-level ideas….Im especially very curious about it !
What book would you recommend as the best starting point for someone like me?
Thanks in advance!…

You could try Sophie’s World by Jostein Gaarder. It’s a novel, but the premise of the novel is the main character (a teenage girl) getting introduced to the major concepts of Western philosophy.
Sophies world by Jostein Gaarder
Sophie’s World by Jostein Gaarder, a novel that introduces philosophy through engaging storytelling. Perfect for you! It teaches the entire history of philosophy through a fun mystery novel story, not a dry textbook.
A Little History of Philosophy, by Nigel Warburton
How to be Perfect by Micheal Schur has much of the humor he brought to the TV shows he worked on, while also being a good broad strokes introduction to many major schools of thought.
The Tao of Pooh by Benjamin Hoff.
Uses Winnie the Pooh to explain Taoism. Its short and well explained.
