Hi, I just read No Escape: The True Story of China’s Genocide of the Uyghurs, and I could not put it down! I love good autobiographies, this one also included testimonies from other people which I loved.

I have a strong interest in politics, authoritarian regimes, cults, extremism. But I would love a book that is also people-focused, eg. how people deal with these political climates or experiences.

Thank you very much in advance:)

If you’re looking for something on the darker side that’s been swept under the rug of history:

Notes of a Hostage by Svetozar Ćorović

For our Prisoners by Živko Topalovič

      and

The Black Book: Suffering of Serbs of Bosnia and Herzegovina during the World War 1914-1918 by Vladimir Ćorović

      All WWI-related

    2. The Witness Wore Red is a really fascinating memoir by a woman who escaped the Mormon polygamist cult. She talks a lot about the experience of being in the mindset of that cult and what she witnessed. There’s also Under the Banner of Heaven about Mormon fundamentalism/extremism generally.
