I’m looking for dystopian or post-apocalyptic books written by authors outside of the English speaking world. But for me to understand them they have to be translated to English. Any suggestions?
I’m open to both young adult and adult.

The Wall by Marlen Haushofer (Austria)
Kallocain by Karin Boye (Sweden)
Pink Slime Fernanda Trias
*We* by Yevgeny Zamyatin
*Roadside Picnic* by Arkady and Boris Strugatsky
Snowpiercer is based on a series of French graphic novels that are pretty different than the movie.
I Who Have Never Known Men
The Unworthy by Agustina Bazterrica
*2084 The End of the World* by Boualem Sansal.
*Battle Royale* by Kōshun Takami.
We by Zamyatin is a classic! Also try Metro 2033 by Dmitry Glukhovsky, its russian and post apocalyptic, really immersive world building
Try the Metro Trilogy by Dmitry Glukhovsky, they are post-apocalyptic books set in the Moscow metro and I think they’re great!
Metro 2033
Metro 2034
Metro 2035
I’d also recommend anything by the Strugatsky Brothers, especially Roadside Picnic.
And We by Yevgeny Zamyatin! Precursor to 1984
Satantango by Laszlo Krasznahorkai is a good place to start.
We by Yevgeny Zamyatin has accidentally become an annual read for me. It’s beautiful and claustrophobic and celebrates the messiness of individuality via a character becoming disillusioned with his rigidly perfect society.
Kallocain by Karin Boye is the dystopian book I recommend the most after people hit the classics. As someone who left a high demand religion, the relationships and interiority of the protagonist in this book felt incredibly real. The creeping disaffection with a controlling organization that he’s given his life to while also feeling like he can’t discuss it with anyone around him, including his wife, is so well done.
The Memory Police by Yōko Ogawa
Maja Lunde’s Climate Quartet (The History of Bees, The End of the Ocean,The Last Wild Horses and The Dream of a Tree)
