Hi all, I am hoping to find a book to get me back into reading. Bonus points if it’s on Spotify as an audiobook included in the Premium subscription! I’m finding it hard to see a common thread in the media I’ve enjoyed in the past in order to find a new read.
I don’t love fantasy and tend to stray away from straightforward romances. I’m 21/non binary/ and have a psychology/sociology degree if that helps at all!
Book favorites are: The Stranger – Albert Camus, The Murderbot Diaries, and I’m Glad My Mom Died – Jennette McCurdy. Straightforward prose is what I’m looking for.
I watch more movies than read books, so my movie favorites are: Tampopo (1985), Phantom Thread (2017), No Other Choice (2025), Autumn Sonata (1978)
Thank you in advance!

My first thought was *Sure, I’ll Join Your Cult!* by Maria Bamford.
There is a version of *The Silence of the Lambs* that is read by Frank Muller. The movie is true to the book, but Clarice is more of a badass and we get the internal thoughts, which bring more tension and depth. For more thriller/horror check out Stephen Graham Jones, Christopher Buehlman, Ronald Malfi, Jack Ketchum, and F Paul Wilson.
