Look up Mary Roach. She writes just the kind of books you’re looking for.

    2. The Origins of Consciousness in the Breakdown of the Bicameral Mind by r/JulianJaynes has led to many fascinating discussions with friends.

    3. I’m starting a reread of Bruce Catton’s centennial history of the Civil War. The Coming Fury, Neve Call Retreat, and Terrible Swift Sword. They’re a fantastic read and Catton’s prose is very accessible.
