Generally the genres I read are sci-fi/fantasy and recently thriller/mystery, but horror has always been my favourite genre for basically everything else; but it's hard to find a decent frickin horror book. Especially one that's not by Stephen King.

I'm looking for horror with themes of Eldritch/Lovecraftian, cults, mythology/mysticism. I haven't read too much Gothic style, but it's one I'm really wanting to explore more. I'd be fine with the classics or newer ones, since they'd likely be available at the library. I love horror that sits with you once the story is over, and I love me a good series. I'm not super interested in ghost stories, but I'd be open to those as well.

I'm looking to add quite a few to my list to read this year.

For a cult style horror I can highly recommend Night Film by Marisha Pessi if you don’t mind a slow burn psychological horror with an unreliable narrator who is also kind of a jerk

    2. *Lone Women* by Victor Lavalle

      *Hokuloa Road* by Elizabeth Hand

*I Remember You* by Yrsa Sigurðardóttir

    3. The Croning by Laird Barron

      Flicker by Theodore Roszak

Both take their time to get to the cult stuff

You might try Arthur Machen, who was a big influence on Lovecraft. He wrote stories not novels. The White People and Other Weird Stories is a great collection.
