Hey guys!
My sister is currently going through a tough time, our mom died when she was 9 and now that she is away from home living with her dad, homeschooled, and kinda isolated she is acting out. Recently she said she was depressed and we are working on getting her into therapy and getting her the help she needs. She recently ran away and talked about self harm. I’m 24 and trying to think of solutions to help her even though I’m states away. As a teenager I wish i learned that reading was a better escape. Now that I’m older and going through college reading helps me destress and kinda “escape” from reality. She has a super beautiful and creative mind and id love for her to get into reading.
If you guys have any suggestions on YA books preferably w/o a lot of sex and smut. It would be appreciated. She loves Manga and anime, fantasy, and would maybe even like some thriller books. Please let me know!
Thanks!
– a desperate big sister

Check out Paper Girls by Brian K. Vaughan and Cliff Chiang. Maybe also Middlewest by Skottie Young and Jorge Corona.
