I’ve been in a reading slump and I just can’t find a grammatically well written book with a good storyline.
My recent favorites consist of Gillian Flynn books, Penance by Eliza Clark, The Favorites by Layne Fargo, and The House of My Mother by Shari Franke. Basically things that have a bit of suspense, mystery, and drama. But every book I’ve tried to read recently either doesn’t have good writing or a good storyline.
Any recommendations that you think I’d like based on those books?
I’m also wanting to find a good romance book, but every recommendation I’ve gotten recently is a poorly written TikTok book. TIA!

Mystery: **Chasing the Boogeyman by Richard Chizmar**
And what romances did you not enjoy? Do you know what kinds of romances you *do* like?
Look into the psychological thrillers written by British author Ruth Rendell, who also wrote as Barbara Vine.
She has a series about an MC Inspector Wexford, but
the titles you want are the Vine books.
I was talking to my friends about this recently how it seems like all the new books nowadays that are recommended by TikTok are not good!
-Liane Moriarty’s books (Big Little Lies and What Alice Forgot are my faves)
– None of This is True and The Night She Disappeared by Lisa Jewell
-Shutter Island by Dennis Lehane
-Hostage by Clare Mackintosh
– Where’d you go, Bernadette by Maria Semple
-The Woman in the Window by A.J. Finn
Books that aren’t necessarily thrillers but are just sooo good and have the drama and suspense you’re looking for, are The Help by Kathryn Stockett and The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd. Top 2 favorite books of all time and better than the movies if you haven’t read them yet!
Ok here are some short and sweet to get you going:
But Not Too Bold by Hache Pueyo
Tress of the Emerald Sea by Brandon Sanderson
The Round House – Louise Erdrich
