Hi everyone! Hankering to read a romance/romantasy where the villain/antihero falls for the main character- but, this is important- STAYS a villain/antihero. I feel like I keep reading books where as soon as the MC and the antihero/villain start hooking up, ALL of the villains past motivations are revealed to have actually been justified in some shape or form, or that it was for the greater good all along. I am DYING for a book where the villain & MC get together but the villain stays somewhat villainous even if they're super into the MC. Rumplestitskin from Once Upon a Time vibes.

I've read ACOTAR and didn't really care for the Rhysand/Feyre romance past book 2, as I felt he immediately fell into "actually he's a good guy and everything was just a ploy" trope. I thought he was way more interesting as a villain in book 1.

I've just finished Caraval and, spoiler- was rooting for Jacks the whole time because again, it feels like once Legend was into Tella all of his motivations became toothless.

I've read and loved the Invisible Life of Addie Larue, as well as the Winternight Trilogy, and Folk of Air series. Did not care for Uprooted or Night Circus.

    Thank you so much!!

    1. Assistant to the Villain.

The villain is morally grey and while maybe he’s doing certain things for a good reason, it’s not clear. He’s straight up torturing and killing people, so I wouldn’t say he’s ever good; not does he stop doing those things bc of the fmc. If anything, his villainy actually rubs off on her lol.

But the tone is more like romantasy meets workplace comedy, so while he’s doing terrible things, the story still feels kind of lighthearted.
