All my friends read romance. I've tried and they're just so boring. They're often poorly written.
I've just finished All The Missing Pieces and the amount of plot holes and unbelievable MMC made it impossible to like. I also read You Should Be So Lucky, which was better written but so so boring.
Fourth Wing was better but the plot felt almost YA.
I read the first two ACOTAR books and struggled with the ridiculous tropes.
I normally read high fantasy like Joe Abercrombie, Brandon Sanderson, Robin Hobb etc.
Are there any romance books, fantasy or not, that have better plots and believable characters?

Atmosphere by Taylor Jenkins Read is a gorgeous sapphic romance set during the 1980s space program, plenty of plot as well as a beautiful love story.
Violet thistlewaite is not a villain anymore. It’s cozier than the fantasy you mention but still has all the high fantasy elements. Nowhere near as much adult content as acotar but it’s still there.
