When the world gets real shitty, I lighten up my reading material. No war, tragic memoirs, shattering journalism, or dark literature. Any recommendations on truly witty, well written books in the vein of one of my absolute favorites?

Have you read Toole’s *Confederacy of Dunces* yet? If not, that one.
“Employers sense in me a denial of their values.’ He rolled over onto his back. ‘They fear me. I suspect that they can see that I am forced to function in a century I loathe. This was true even when I worked for the New Orleans Public Library.”
Edit: Vonnegut’s *God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater* may be of interest. There is some information about the protagonist’s past experience that is a bit dark.
Paul Beatty’s *The Sellout* is another satire. I’m a little mixed on it, but it gets pretty absurd. Edit again. Oh yeah, the protagonist was experimented on by his father. So maybe not.
I feel like Gulliver’s Travels is in the same vein. I laughed out many times reading this book.
Jingo by Terry Pratchet is basically a satire of the concept of nationalism with the same absurdist tones as catch 22.
