Hi everyone,
I recently started reading short stories again and I’m looking for recommendations.
I just read Leo Tolstoy’s “Two Old Men” and really loved it. The story felt simple but very powerful and emotional.
I’m a beginner when it comes to reading literature regularly, but I’m also a filmmaker, so I’m especially interested in short stories with strong human themes, emotions, and moral or philosophical depth — stories that feel cinematic or thought-provoking.
I’m open to:
• classic literature
• modern short stories
• international writers (Japanese, Russian, Asian, etc.)
But I’d prefer short stories that are easy to read but still meaningful, similar in spirit to Two Old Men.
What are some good short stories I should start with?
Thanks!
