33 male new dad in the US. I am looking for a book that makes you think about death or existentialism. I really like reading shorter stories as they tend to be easier for me to finish. Anything that is in the same realm of the following books as these are the only books I’ve read in my adult life:
by night in chile – Robert Bolano (really enjoyed the writing style and themes)
angel down – Daniel Kraus( a bit long but enjoyed this)
visit to goldenham -Ernst Junger (I loved th existential themes)
Death of Ivan Illych – Leo Tolstoy (first book I read and loved it)

A short stay in hell
you can never go wrong with The Stranger or Metamorphosis or The Trial. Chess Story or The Tunnel are some other favorites of mine.
Notes from Underground, by Fyodor Dostoevsky
I’ve pimped The Magus before, but applies here.
What Dreams May Come -Richard Matheson
M-0 by Florin Alexandru Tanasa is my most recent discovery. Hidden gem, atypical and fresh in its approach. The story is told through a stream of consciousness.
