I am working on figuring out my masters thesis (English (as a foreign language) 5-10th grade education). I really want to write about retellings/adaptations, although I haven’t fully developed my research question.
Initially I read a lot of Peter Pan retellings as a teen, which got be into reading the original Peter Pan etc. I think working with Peter Pan, can become an issue. Simply in referring to it as a children’s book.
Anyhow.. I am looking for retellings/adaptations of classics or children’s lit that shows moral ambiguity constructed differently in the canonical text and its YA retelling.

Sherwood by Meagan Spooner
Legendborn by Tracy Deonn is a modern retelling/adaptation of the King Arthur legends
Not sure this is what you are looking for, but My Salty Mary by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton and Jodi Meadows is a novel that combines the story of The Little Mermaid with the story of Mary Read.
There are other books in the My Jane/My Mary series of books, but I believe this is the only one that includes a retelling of a YA book.
