Like the title says- my long term ex boyfriend unexpectedly passed away this past weekend and I need a book to help me disassociate for a while. I don’t feel like anything too deep (which knocks off a lot of my TBR), and think something crazy, captivating and wild would be good for me. I am thinking something along to lines of Best Offer Wins, YellowFace, or Margos Got Money Problems could be good. I’m also not opposed to thrillers like Gone Girl or Sharp Objects.
Please help me disassociate in a good book and take my mind off this grief!!

Sorry for your loss 💔 Based on the books you used as a comparison and their unhinged nature, I would highly recommend She’s a Lamb! by Meredith Hambrock. I loved it, very delusional and unhinged narrator and I thought it was a unique spin on that sort of character. The MC is obsessed with getting the part of Maria in a small regional theater production, but instead of getting cast she’s asked to be the childminder for the production, so she plots to get the leading lady out of the way.

In a somewhat similar vein is the book I’m reading right now–A Good Person by Kirsten King. It’s an ARC though so it’s not out yet–but comes out next week!

I’ve never heard of any of your recommendations (except the Gillian Flynn books,) but if you’re looking for a thriller similar to them, I suggest:

The Reckless Oath We Made by Brynn Greenwood

We Are All the Same in the Dark by Julia Heaberlin

She Rides Shotgun by Jordan Harper

If you want something funny but still heartwarming, try The White Trash Zombie series by Diana Rowland! The whole series is about facing death (or the lack of it,) but it’s also hilarious and offbeat enough to take your mind off of your grief for a bit.
