Looking for books in the vein of The Power (Naomi Alderman), in that it's basically our world, with a significant (speculative) difference that is mined for social commentary.

    Some other titles I enjoyed:
The Buried Giant – Kazuo Ishiguro

The Anomaly – Herve Le Tellier

The School for Good Mothers – Jessamine Chan

    Nightbitch – Rachel Yoder

Death Valley / The Pisces – Melissa Broder

    Venomous Lumpsucker – Ned Beauman

Shades of Grey – Jasper Fforde (this one is maybe more solidly speculative than I'm really looking for, but I loved the story)

Lud In The Mist by Hope Mirrlees is a classic literary fantasy satire.

      Description from Google:

Lud-in-the-Mist (1926) by Hope Mirrlees is a classic fantasy novel about a prosperous, prosaic town, Dorimare, forced to confront the chaotic magic of neighboring Fairyland. When illegal fairy fruit is smuggled into the town, causing chaos, the respectable mayor, Nathaniel Chanticleer, must uncover repressed secrets, confront past taboos, and embrace the magical, dangerous, and transformative, leading to a reconciliation with the fantastical.
