I know there are a million books out there with your beautiful, ethereal faeries from fairy land out there. They're clever, cruel, divinely gorgeous, and will whisk you out of your hum-drum life and earth to bring you to a place with stunning palaces, clothing, landscapes, amazing food, etc..
But are there any books out there with the more common faeries in? Ones who are just there to help someone with a hard to run life, secretly performing those simple but routinely disheartening tasks that eat away all your time and enjoyment out of life?
Those faeries who ask little, just leave them a cup of milk or a piece of cake, and they'll clean the house, feed the dog, fix the roof, etc. things like that, but don't try to see them or thank them, or they'll leave forever.
Any suggestions are welcome! Thanks!

The Tiffany Aching series – Terry Pratchett.
The wee free men are very much based on Brownies.
