I feel an urgency to learn about injustice in the world, so I read a lot of non-fiction about things like structural racism, global colonialism, etc.

I also read a lot of heavier memoirs, most recently Call Me By My Name and What My Bones Know.

That said, I'd like to find something to read at night that is *lighter and but still has depth!*

    Wishlist:

    – not heavy, but still compelling

    – well written

    -page turner

    – female led

    – must avoid *centering* around a happy family or any kind of parent/child relationship.

    Thanks for your recs, everyone!

    1. Literary fiction has been a great way to read “lighter” books but still read good books for me. Elena Fertante’s Quartet, starting with A Brilliant Friend, is beautifully written and not draining.

      Do you mean short books?

The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros

      Outline by Rachel Cusk

      Small Boat by Vincent Delecroix

Exhalation by Ted Chiang for short stories

    3. Mirrored Whispers The Labrinth of a Looking Glass by Ronald Washington, it’s a dark detective genre, the back drop, is hunting for a serial killer during the middle Israeli and Palestinian conflict. Not your typical read, great page turner!
