I’m looking for something where drugs are a central part of the atmosphere or the character’s life, similar to the vibe of Trainspotting, not glamorized but raw, chaotic, and tied into how they see the world.
Preferably something that feels real and a bit uncomfortable rather than polished. What would you recommend?

Demon Copperhead, though perhaps you’re looking for something written by someone who’s been through it (I don’t think/am not aware that Barbara kingsolver has.)
I thought it was pretty good (3.5 – 4 stars) altho others were not so impressed (3.34 on Storygraph): *Glow* by Ned Beauman.
Then there’s *Vurt* by Jeff Noon. It won awards and stuff.
Smack by Melvin Burgess, anything by Augusten Burroughs.
