30+ year old British Male in the Middle East.

As a teacher, I like to learn about the world and promote reading to my students but feel like a hypocrite for not really reading myself. Over the last 5-10 years I finished the Dark Tower series, Millennium Series and Dark Materials Series but haven’t read as much until this year.

I’ve set a target to read 10 books this year. Last three reads have been Arabian Sands By Wilfred Thesiger, Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir and The Wager by David Grann.

I think my next will be King of Ashes by S.A. Cosby but willing to hear otherwise.

    What would you recommend?

    1. When you’re trying to get back into reading, the best thing you can do is read only the things you really want to. And if you aren’t enjoying a book, then stop reading it and find something you want to read. I think at this point it’s more important to build the habit. Worked for me anyway!

The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho is a really good book and helped me get back into reading during lockdown. My friend who read hail Mary also liked the Martian by Andy Weir but that’s just a second hand recommendation.

Maybe read books in the age range of the kids you teach to help u encourage them into reading too. I remember my teachers would do that and it always felt really comforting to talk to them about books that we both read that weren’t just for school. Reading younger is also kinda like stretching before working out. Gets your brain back into the reading mindset and helps u get a taste for what genres u like.
