I’m looking for a story that takes place in the rock or music scene but doesn’t feel glamorized or fake. Something that captures the lifestyle, the personalities, and the messy parts in a believable way.
Any books that really nail that atmosphere and make it feel lived in?

daisy jones & the six gets recommended a lot but honestly felt too polished for me. check out “love is a mix tape” by rob sheffield – it’s more memoir than novel but captures that raw music obsession perfectly.
if you want actual fiction, “high fidelity” nails the record store/music nerd culture without making it seem cooler than it actually is.
Everybody Loves Our Town
Rip it up and start again
I think the nearest I got was Espedair Street by Iain Banks. Speaking as someone who was a teenager in the sixties, most of this sort of thing seems a bit feeble and is obviously written by people who didn’t live through that scene. It’s British.
