So I don’t read much but I’m wanting to get into it. The main things I’m wanting is a fantasy story that’s somewhat like the old Labyrinth movie (which ik there is a book of now). I like labyrinth in the sense of 1. A young adult character (I’m 18 so I feel as though I’d connect better with them) 2. The whole concept of a different world/being lost/exploring/meeting people on the way. Also love the concept of
trying to save or escape something.
I know it’s sorta different, but the lord of the rings and hobbit vibe I also love. In the sense of a party going on an adventure and that high fantasy (I think) aspect
I’m not into romance being a big plot point, but it’s fine if it has a small part.

dude check out the magicians by lev grossman, it’s basically if harry potter went to college and had existential dread. main character is around your age and gets pulled into this magical world that’s way darker than he expected
also neverwhere by neil gaiman might be perfect – guy falls through the cracks into this twisted version of london underground and has to find his way back while helping this girl escape danger. has that same “lost in another world” vibe as labyrinth but more gritty
