The Road by Cormac McCarthy – it’s about a man and his son trying to survive a nuclear winter. The man tries his best to preserve his son’s innocence, and just… fails. Because how can you preserve innocence in a world where you’re constantly starving and strangers are trying to rob you! Just a heads up if you’ve never read a McCarthy book before, he has a particular writing style that people either love or hate, haha
I Who Have Never Known Men by Jaqueline Harpman. My absolute favorite book of all time! It about a girl who grows up in a cage among 39 women, and she’s the only one among them that has no memories of their life before imprisonment. She’s never had access to an education, physical touch, sunlight… Yet she’s still so incredibly human in her own way.
And if you haven’t read The Hunger Games, definitely those haha. Sunrise on the Reaping had me SOBBING.
