    3. Gary Jennings 4 big ones. Aztec, Raptor, Spangle, and The Journeyer

      Black Cross by Greg Iles

Almost all of the Kingsbridge novels by Ken Follett (the latest one isn’t doing the job IMO, the closer he gets to modernity, the less I like him)

Almost anything you pick up by Bernard Cornwell. Agincourt, The Warlord Chronicles series, for a start.

If you’re interested in Rome, I recommend Steven Saylor (who I don’t think I’ve ever seen mentioned here yet) and Colleen Mccullough.

I’m currently reading the Matthew Corbett series by Robert McCammon, and it’s fantastic.

The Thousand Autumns of Jacob De Zoet by David Mitchell is beautiful.

      Alamut by Vladimir Bartol

And if you like a good Indiana Jones kind of adventure, look up Napoleon’s Pyramids by William Dietrich

    4. Ken follet has excellent Historic fiction. From different ages, pre Historic, middle ages first and second World War.

And The Conqueror Series by Conn Iggulden a fictional telling of Genghis Khan life and the lifes of his successors.

I just finished The Pretender by Jo Harkin and absolutely loved it. It’s set during and just after the War of the Roses and is based on a true story, and it’s totally immersive.

Little by Edward Carey is marvelous as well, it’s about a totally unforgettable woman who works as a servant in Versailles, and then gets caught up in the French revolution.
