My last read was People We Meet On Vacation and I loved it. I usually read a lot of YA fantasy though. Some of my fave books are One Dark Window, The French Kiss, Hunger Games series, Heartless, and The Love Hypothesis.

since you liked People We Meet on Vacation maybe try something with that same romance energy but different setting? i’m not huge reader myself but my sister always talks about books that have similar feels to what you mentioned. she says there’s tons of stuff that bridges that gap between YA fantasy and contemporary romance
also One Dark Window was pretty dark right? if you want something in that direction there’s definitely more fantasy stuff with romance elements that might hit right
