hello! ive been trying to find some good romance books but nothing really ends up meeting what I like (I'm quite picky hehe 🙁 ).
Does anyone have any romance book recommendations that have main characters similar to Howl and Sophie?
Also (sorry again, I'm really picky), I'm a big big fan of anything whimsy, romantasy and historical fiction, the catty mmc archetype, soft(ish) fmcs, and love love love when books end with them being/having a family of their own. Another thing I really like is when the main couple have playful bickering between them & when the mmc and fmc are intertwined and work somewhat together throughout the story but still hold individualism (in the sense where both have character outside of the other).
On the other hand, I am not a huge fan of the overused tropes in romance novels set in modern times & hate unhappy or open-ended endings! I dislike it if the love interests are enemies too (but I loved it if they don't like each other in the beginning/are annoyed by each other) Also, I don't mind if the romance is more of a sub-plot to the book, so long as its there.
Some books that I've liked are the Howl's Moving Castle Trilogy, Half a Soul, and Emma!
Any recommendations are super appreciated, thank you!!

You might really enjoy the Ten Thousand Doors of January – it has that whimsical feel with portal fantasy elements and the romance develops really naturally between characters who start as friends. The male love interest has some of that charming but slightly dramatic energy you’re looking for
Also maybe look at historical fantasy series like the Glamourist Histories – lots of witty banter, regency setting with magic, and the main couple definitely maintain their own personalities while working together. The magic system is pretty interesting too and there’s good family themes in later books
