My mom has been in a deep depression for 2 years and her birthday is coming up. I want to get her a few books to help get her out of her own head. For context, she LOVES stories based on a true story. Her favorite movie of all time is Jaws. Any secretly motivating books would also be helpful as I think she would be put off by anything obviously self-help. Thank you!!

I hope this helps-
01. The Midnight Library by Matt Haig
02. Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman
03. A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman
Open by Andre Agassi
Shoe Dog by Phil Knight
these two are great books story wise and and motivating too
both Andre Agassi and Phil Knight have a athletic background and also its pretty was interesting to know about sports culture during that time period
“Tom Lake” by Anne Patchett involves a woman who is relishing having her young adult daughters home during Covid lock down. To pass the time she tells them the story of the summer she dated a would-be movie star.
So it’s not based on a true story and may be too slow for someone who likes Jaws, but it’s a story about a woman who is happier in her non-glamorous older years than she was in her kinda-a-movie-star youth, and that contentment is something admirable.
“Born a Crime” is an insightful-yet-hilarious memoir by Trevor Noah. A quick, fun read.
