I'm hoping for something along these lines. I have in the past imagined a budding romance without understanding each other at all, mainly through intentional actions like picking flowers and giving them with a smile or holding a hand at the edge of a table when the other goes on the floor to prevent any accident hurt when they come up.
But it doesn't need to be to that degree, maybe just heavy/medium sized barrier. Maybe they know the basics of the language, or enough sentences to get by

My wife and I had something like this when we first met – I was learning English and she knew maybe 10 words in my language but we still managed to communicate everything important through gestures and shared looks. There’s this book about two people who meet during travels where one speaks only broken English and other person tries to learn few words from their language, very sweet story about connection beyond words.
