Hey guys! I’ve been reading a lot more recently and I’ve realised the type of books i’m most attached to. I’m in need for books that really hit hard, ones that I’ll finish and I’ll feel like i’m in so much pain and anguish. Ideally these books will tackle depression, suicidal ideation and loneliness; additionally, if there’s a deep sense of longing for someone but it doesn’t end in them in a relationship. I’m fully aware of how great of a task is but the books don’t need to have all of those points, as long as it can hit on a couple of these themes. Some books I’ve read recently that have itched this feeling for me were:
No Longer Human – Osamu Dazai
The Bell Jar – Sylvia Plath
The Sorrows of a Young Werther – Goethe
White Nights – Fyoder Dostoyevsky
The Metamorphosis – Franz Kakfa
Norwegian Wood – Haruki Murakami (although I didn’t like the portrayal of women in this book)
Grief is the Thing with Feathers – Max Porter
Outside of books, my favourite graphic novels are:
It’s Lonely at the Centre of the Earth – Zoe Thorogood
The Sound of the World by Heart – Giacomo Bevilacqua
Also, it may be useful to know some of my favourite tv shows to fully grasp what sort of literature i’m looking for:
Bojack Horseman
Fleabag
Normal People (the book is on my tbr though)
Hopefully you guys can help, thank you in advance!
