Language learning books? / Beginner spanish

This summer, I want to practice learning new languages. Does anyone have any book/textbook suggestions on learning to pick up a language? My local library just has Spanish to English dictionaries, but that isn't exactly something I can just read. I'm open to learning any language.

Also, I'm at a no sabo kid level of Spanish. I can understand it pretty well, but my reading is basically at a 5th grade level. So does anyone know a Spanish book I can read that isn't too difficult but also isn't a children's book?
