I don’t know if this will make sense to anyone else, but I want to read a hopeful book that makes me fall in love with the magic of ordinary life and moments, and ordinary people. Something that makes you feel the way you feel when you see an old photo of people from hundreds of years ago, having fun, and you remember they were just like you. I want to close the book and go out into the world and be excited about getting to be part of it.

Most of Ted Kooser’s poetry is exactly this. His most celebrated book is *Delights & Shadows* (2004).

I also went to poetry after reading this! Loved Hollie McNish’s “Lobster”

Rosamunde Pilcher’s books, particularly The Shell Seekers and September.

Another one that popped into my mind – “Seven Thousand Ways to Listen” – Mark Nepo
