I've been thinking about getting into reading since I'm almost a SENIOR in high school and haven't picked up a book since since like litterally ever. Obviously I've read books for school and things like that but I've never actually READ a book on my own free time and even when I do read something I like, I cant seem to take time out of my day to read, I usually just lay in bed and watch TV. Obviously due to this, recently I've been feeling behind on things like vocabulary and such and I have the idea of going to college in the future and I feel like if I start reading I'll feel smarter or something and it could also be a hobby I enjoy as I don't have many hobbies. The only books I can say I like is manga but I don't want that because Obviously I'm going for literacy. I just looked up a few things and bought "of mice and men" and "the grapes of wrath" i figured these books are well known and highly rated and I didnt know what else to pick up. I don't want the book to be awful boring and wordy but enough for me to enjoy while also being able to pick up new words and expand, a book that can give me something to think about. I never liked Edgar allen poe or Shakespeare because of their long articulate and, to me, boring descriptions. Of course this is probably again due to my low literacy and im just a noob at reading. I'm hoping to get some book recommendations so just throw them at me please, and also give me tips on reading? Thanks

started with steinbeck too, solid picks
If you’re interested in accessible classics, Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury is written at a relatively easy level while being a compelling and insightful book.
But also, don’t feel obligated to start with classics. If you have favorite TV shows or movies, finding books with similar stories or themes might help Keri you interested. Happy reading! 🙂
h{{Kaiju Preservation Society by Scalzi}}.
It’s a really fun relatable read, pretty easy to picture it as a manga.
So I’ll tell you what my roommate did to get into reading.. he’s a big fan of the lord of the rings movies, so afterward years of rewatching the movies, he finally read the books. From then he would look for books similar to LOTR
So you can find shows/movies you like, i suggest reading the books
