Every year Canada has a program called canadareads which highlights five books written by Canadian authors and throughout the week they talk about them and one is crowned a winner. This happened this week and there was a post about it. It was eventually taken down in the name of declutterring the sub.

This is disrespectful to Canadian authors and Canadian book fans who want a space to talk about the event. But not surprising given the world state of affairs.

I’m not expecting this post to last but the mods should feel ashamed of themselves. Nothing about it was rooted in politics. It’s okay if us Canadians want a space to talk about our culture, you Americans will always control the world.

Please be better in the future.

Sorry, is there a “world state of affairs” where Canadians are being regularly oppressed and attacked? I’m confused.

    2. Canada reads is awesome and I’m looking forward to reading Foe soon. I’d hope it was removed only out of ignorance and not because of anything else.

Canada Reads is very well known and certainly on topic for a books sub! Why on earth would something like that be removed? Simply further proof that our literary culture will always be considered inconsequential by others and that we need to actively defend/support it.

I missed it but I feel like there’s more to it…

      >”It’s okay if us Canadians want a space to talk about our culture”

Ah, there it is. Probably spiraled into something that wasn’t r/books related.

    5. The only drama I saw recently was a Canadian parent discussing how words should be spelt. I’m not sure if it was this sub but you do need lines to keep posts on subject.

    6. I mean the post 2 above this one is about a French publishing house, so your narrative that they are deleting anything that isn’t America-centric doesn’t seem particularly true

Pretty much every book related sub is filled with garbage mods who are power hungry

I understand the sentiment of the post but why the shade at Americans when a majority of them reading this probably support you? What a strange way to get your point across…

Sorry but we’re only allowed to post about the audiobook versions of project hail mary and dungeon crawler carl

    10. As a Canadian myself I find this whole post crazy.

I firmly believe the mods on this sub were not discriminating and doing exactly as they mentioned.

We are not being targeted, and maybe reaching out to the mods first to ask them politely to reinstate it would be a better action than trying to say that Canadians are being discriminated against. If anything, the Americans get much more flack.

    11. It’s because you didn’t post about your Goodreads review or ask questions about reading habits like “Which finger do you use to turn your pages with?”

    12. This was a very melodramatic way to make your point. A post gets removed in a book sub and you bring up “the world state of affairs.” Get some perspective.
