The boys and I have read East of Eden, Grapes of Wrath, and Lonesome Dove together. We've enjoyed them all greatly and would love to know where to go from here. Anything that comes to mind in the same echelon?
Not concerned about time period, decade, or author so much as just reading a fantastic novel together.

Shogun by James Clavell
I really enjoyed The Light Bearer by Donna Gillespie and Hild by Nicola Griffith for really solid historical epics!
Or you could continue the Great American Novel vibes and read Beloved by Toni Morrison maybe? Less epic, but every bit as wonderful.
the books you reference are all worth reading, but maybe step away from the “reddit canon” for a while.
Based on what you’ve so far enjoyed, I’d recommend
*Shadow Country* by Peter Matthiessen.
