I’m looking for a novel for book club- ideally it’s set in the southern US and has lovely imagery of southern settings, like a Pat Conroy novel. Hopefully it will have some suspense or twist that makes it enjoyable for a book club discussion. Romance is fine too but looking for more than a beach read (no Nicholas Sparks)
An example we really enjoyed before is Promise of the Pelican by Roy Hoffman but he sadly has not written anything else lately.
Looking for my next favorite southern author. Thanks!

any of S.A. Cosby’s books (my favorite is Blacktop Wasteland)
The Cutting Season by Attica Locke
Down River by John Hart
Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil
Greg Iles’ work fits the bill, particularly his Penn Cage series.
You’d like S.A. Cosby.

Long Upon the Land by Margaret Maron
Designated Daughters by Margaret Maron- these are all part of a mystery series set in and around various parts of North Carolina.
