I’m a Literature grad, which means I do heavy reading. Just got done with a dissertation that sucked the soul out of me. Have you ever seen that meme where SpongeBob looks super dehydrated and traumatised? Yeah, me right now. I have been yearning and pining for absolutely no one at all. Okay, maybe I started watching The Vampire Diaries and Stefan Salvatore sent me into a frenzy. Like… need that.
But yeah, my point is. Please recommend me romance fiction that is well-written, very spicy and won’t make me frown at the sentence structure like a disgruntled schoolmarm. I am very picky. And yes, I have already red Delta of Venus and Tropic of Cancer. I want something recent. I really enjoyed all of Emily Henry’s work— gobbled that up. I like Sally Rooney’s depiction of romance and human connection. Just please give me something to read that won’t further annihilate my braincells, I sound so prolix right now… it is pissing me off. Simple, light-hearted, sexy readings.

*The Favorites* was good but had way too much yearning for my tastes, but sounds up your alley 🙂
Cliche but the love hypothesis is just a really fun and light read- a rom com in a book (idk if its well written in terms of literature but it’s funny n cute)
*Just Last Night* by Mhairi McFarlane! Very yearning, altho I can’t recall the spice level?
as a life-long reader I also struggle with poorly-written novels! So here are my recs for **well-written romance** *with varying levels of spice and yearning (unspecified as I can’t recall exactly).*
* *Emergency Contact*, by Mary H.K. Choi (hard to explain, kind of quirky and delightful)
* Alyssa Cole: the Reluctant Royals series is her lightest, the others can be a bit heavier due to the settings (e.g. 1960s Tennessee, Civil War), but all are amazing.
* Helen Hoang, especially *The Bride Price*
* *The Stand-In,* by Lily Chu. Turns out our main character is a doppleganger for a very famous Chinese actress… loved this so much!
* *A Cowboy to Remember*, by Rebekah Weatherspoon (Black cowboys in California, amnesia, famous people.. But it works so well! I love these books). *Her standalone novels* Xeni *and* Treasure *are both delightful, also.*
* *The Rakess*, by Scarlett Peckham. Historical romance. Lots of pining.
* *Dear Emmie Blue*, by Lia Louis. Estranged family, and what are “soul mates” really? (low on spice, high on yearning)
