Might be a weird request but does anyone know any books with distinct American gothic atmosphere (foggy swamplands/ religious terror etc)?
I’ve recently became fascinated with this aesthetic and crave to read something of the sort

definitely check out some flannery o’connor if you haven’t already – her short stories nail that southern gothic religious horror vibe perfectly. william faulkner also captures that decaying american south atmosphere really well in his novels, though they can be bit dense to get through.
