Hi everyone, I've been doing a bit of a classical literature kick this winter and I've gone through a lot of classic books (everything from Huckleberry Finn to Frankenstein to Art of War to The Aeneid to Twelfth Night to A Christmas Carol to Albert Camus to, Faulkner's own As I Lay Dying). And one book that I really want to read is The Sound and The Fury. Just on title alone, I want to read this book.

I have heard that it is far and away one of the most difficult books to read of all time, or at least up there though, and to my understanding that is in large part because William Faulkner wrote it jumping between characters, perspectives, times, and events, but only delineating the change in perspective by italics and paragraph breaks. His idea was to publish the story with each character's part written in different colored ink, but when it was published in October 1929 those different inks were far too expensive to achieve and the book was published sprawlingly and confusedly. It is allegedly one of the most indecipherable masterpieces ever written. I want to figure out what happens with the Color-Coded Version of the book that exists so I don't have to scratch my head so hard. But as far as I know, this is the only version of this story that exists out there that's been color-coded, and it was a limited edition print…. I didn't have $345 back then and I certainly won't have it now for whatever it goes for today.

Are there any instances, any at all, of this book being printed with color-coded text? Or highlighted text? Or even – an eBook with the colors added in digitally? Why isn't this widely available? Do I have any hope at all of getting a copy of the book like this?

I really want to know if it's easy to procure a copy, or if there are plans to do another print run, or if there are any ways at all to achieve this. It hurts to know that Faulkner's own intention with this story was accomplished only once, after a century, and never again. Any information or rumors in the grapevine would be helpful. Thank you

Check local libraries maybe? Some universities have special collections with different editions.
