Anybody here reading on goodreads? I've been using it for years but I'm tired of the number chasing. A friend showed me how she uses a digital journal app to organize her reading with covers and notes. No counts, no followers, just her own space.
Has anyone else moved away from Goodreads to something more private? What do you use now and how does it compare?

Been using a simple notes app on my phone for past two years and it’s way better than goodreads tbh. I make little entries about what I’m reading with quotes that hit me and random thoughts during the book. No pressure to rate anything or write reviews that others will judge
The whole social media aspect was making me read faster just to update my progress which killed the actual enjoyment. Now I can sit with a book for weeks if I want and just write whatever comes in mind. Sometimes I even sketch little diagrams when reading technical stuff or philosophy books
Your friend has right idea – keeping it personal makes reading feel like meditation instead of competition. I use one of those markdown editors so I can organize by genre or author easily but any simple app works fine
Pagebound is more social than what you described, but it might still be of interest.
If you want something completely customizable and 100% just for you, Notion is a great general app for keeping track of things, spreadsheets, journaling, etc. It’s simple to use but it’s capable of a LOT. You might also be able to find a template that works for you.
I use storygraph and really like it
What do you mean by number chasing on Goodreads?
