I’m looking for books with basically strong political theme, power struggle, scheming and the like, but in a less patriarchal world like game of thrones where being a woman is just really tough and they experience more hardships. I want books with really smart power plays, struggle for political power, kings and queens and so on but with more equality for women. Would love a matriarchal themed book.
I heard about children of time and its martriarchy setting but it seems too fictional with spiders and that, I’m looking for something more realistic. TIA

The Priory of the Orange Tree might be what youre after. Its got all the political scheming and power plays but women actually hold most of the important positions and drive the major decisions. The world building feels pretty grounded despite having dragons
Also worth checking out The Goblin Emperor – while not strictly matriarchal it has way more gender equality than ASOIAF and the court intrigue is really well done. The politics feel very realistic even in a fantasy setting
Both have that satisfying complexity where you need to pay attention to all the moving pieces but without the constant reminder that being female automatically makes life worse
