Hey everyone, I’m a developer working on a side project and I’d love your honest opinion before building anything.

The idea is simple: you tell the app what you’re trying to achieve right now (get more confident, start a business, heal from a breakup, be a better parent, etc.) and it recommends books that actually match where you are in life — not just generic bestsellers.

No algorithm based on what you’ve read before. Just: what do you want to become? and it finds the books for that.

Would you use something like that? And what’s a goal you’d type in right now if the app existed?

That could work pretty well actually. The problem with most book apps is they just throw random stuff at you based on genres or what other people liked

I’d probably search something like “getting better at technical communication” since explaining complex IT stuff to non-tech people is still challenge for me. Most recommendation engines would just give me generic business books but what I really need is something more specific to my situation

The tricky part might be having enough books in database for really niche goals though. Like if someone types “dealing with imposter syndrome in software development” – do you have 5-10 solid options or just one obvious choice

    2. no hate but isn’t that something any AI chatbot can do already? I just can’t see anyone downloading a dedicated app for that
