Are there any fiction novels with a ‘Third Force’ Plot. Like an intelligence agency or law enforcement unit going out assassinating terrorists/criminals etc?

Hi guys,

As stated in the title I’m looking for a book (thriller), which a unit within a intelligence agency or law enforcement department (local, state or federal) use illegal methods to take down terrorists/criminals using assassinations or dirty tricks methods, which is against the law.

The protagonist (Either a journalist, or an intelligence agent or detective or FBI agent) needs to uncover the unit and bring them to justice.

I have read Graham Green’s book the Quiet American, which touches on a ‘Third Force’ element, but not really the story I’m looking for.

I’ve read Don Winslow’s The Force, which touches on what I’m looking for, and I’ve read quite a bit of non-fiction books that covers it.

However, I would like to read Fiction books that covers what I’m looking for.
