My friend and I loved the Wolf Den series by Elodie Harper. Her birthday is coming up and I wanted to get her Boudicca’s Daughter, but I’ve just seen that storygraph marks it as minor for content about miscarriages. My friend just recently suffered a miscarriage and I don’t want to buy her a book that might be upsetting.

Has anyone read the book? If so are you able to let me know what the mention of miscarriages is like – ideally without major spoilers as I haven’t read it yet!

I picked up this book few months back and can help you out here. The miscarriage content isn’t super heavy or graphic, but it does come up in context of character’s backstory and shapes some of her motivations throughout story. It’s handled pretty sensitively from what I remember, not like brutal detailed scenes or anything traumatic

Given what your friend is going through right now, might be better to hold off on this one for her birthday. Even if it’s written well, those themes could still hit too close to home when she’s still processing everything. Maybe grab her something from different author for now and save this one for later when some time has passed?

Wolf Den series was amazing though so I totally get wanting to find something similar for her. There’s probably other historical fiction that would scratch same itch without potential triggers
