My boyfriend is religious, I wasn't raised that way and I'm trying to understand him. I don't know anything about his religion because he kind of answers vaguely whenever I ask, I just know he's a "cradle" which I think means he was born into it. I think he's afraid I'll judge him or something if he talks too much about it. He's a Christian but his cross looks strange, it's got extra arms on it and two of them are slanted like \. He's also got a lot of old looking painted pictures of people he treats importantly.
I want to know more about it. Some kind of introductory text (and a name to go with it) to look into it. I want to find a way to get him to talk about it and if I know what questions to ask it'll help.

The cross with extra arms and slanted pieces sounds like he’s Orthodox Christian – that’s called an Orthodox cross or Russian cross. The painted pictures are probably icons which are super important in Orthodox faith
Getting an intro book on Orthodox Christianity would be a good start. It’s pretty different from other Christian denominations with all the traditions and liturgy. Once you know some basics you can ask him about specific things like feast days or saints and he’ll probably open up more when he realizes you actually want to learn about it
